Hosea 13:7

"According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted. Therefore they have forgotten me."

Key Reflection

In Hosea 13:7, the prophet describes Israel's spiritual state as one where their desires dictated their fulfillment, leading to pride and eventually forgetfulness of God. This imagery suggests that when people prioritize temporary pleasures or idols over God, they not only become filled with what is fleeting but also lose sight of their true source of sustenance and meaning.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

I will be unto them as a lion -They had waxen fat, were full; yet it was, to become themselves a prey. Their wealth which they were proud of, which they abused, allured their enemies. To cut off all hopes of God’s mercy, He says that he will be to them, as those creatures of His, which never spare. The fierceness of the lion, and the swiftness of the leopard, together portray a speedy inexorable chastisement.
