Hebrews 2:8

"You made him a little lower than the angels. You crowned him with glory and honor."

Key Reflection

Hebrews 2:8 contrasts humanity's position with that of angels, highlighting God’s exalted status over all creation. By stating that humans were made "a little lower than the angels," the passage acknowledges a hierarchical order in the spiritual realm. However, it emphasizes that despite this lower rank, God crowned humanity with "glory and honor," indicating a significant elevation to a position of reverence and importance. This verse underscores the idea that while humans are still somewhat below divine beings like angels, they possess a unique dignity and glory bestowed by God.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 8. Thou hast put all things in subjection, etc. Ps 8:6. That is, all things are put under the control of man, or, thou hast given him dominion over all things. For in that he put all in subjection. The meaning of this is, that "the fair interpretation of the passage in the Psalm is, that the dominion of man, or of human nature over the earth, was to be absolute and total. Nothing was to be excepted. But this is not now the fact in regard to man in general, and can be true only of human nature in the person of the Lord Jesus.
