Hebrews 13:4

"Remember those who are in bonds, as bound with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you are also in the body."

Key Reflection

Hebrews 13:4 encourages believers to empathize with fellow Christians facing persecution by directly associating their struggles as one's own. This verse reflects the early church’s communal and solidarity-based approach, where members were encouraged to share the burdens of those in prison or mistreated, mirroring their collective suffering within the body of Christ. This instruction highlights the importance of compassion and mutual support among believers, even in challenging circumstances.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 4. Marriage is honourable in all. The object here is to state that honour is to be shown to the marriage relation. It is not to be undervalued by the pretence of the superior purity of a state of celibacy, as if marriage were improper for any class of men, or any condition of life; and it should not be dishonoured by any violation of the marriage contract.
