Hebrews 10:23

"let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and having our body washed with pure water,"

Key Reflection

Hebrews 10:23 speaks to the importance of approaching God with sincerity and a deep faith. The verse uses imagery drawn from ancient purification rituals, where hearts are "sprinkled" (Greek: ἐκσπασμένοι) to cleanse them from an evil conscience, and bodies are "washed" (Greek: νευτέρους) with pure water—a reference to ritual cleansing. This imagery underscores the need for spiritual purity and genuine faith in one's worship and relationship with God.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 23. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering. To secure this was one of the leading designs of this epistle, and hence the apostle adverts to it so frequently. It is evident that those to whom he wrote were suffering persecution, Heb 12 and that there was great danger that they would apostatize.
