Genesis 43:19
"The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”"
Key Reflection
The men of Israel arrived at Joseph's house, fearing the worst upon their second visit. Their anxiety stemmed from a past encounter where silver they had paid for goods was found in their sacks—a situation that Joseph used to test them (Genesis 42:25-26). This time, they anticipated a similar scenario but with even more dire consequences. They believed Joseph might use the returned silver as an opportunity to accuse them falsely and seize them both as slaves and take possession of their donkeys, turning what was initially intended as a commercial transaction into a potential act of vengeance or accusation.
