In the first-century context, the foot washing of a Rabbi by his disciples was scandalous; it would have been seen as demeaning and inappropriate for a teacher to perform such a task, especially when done by someone in high standing like Jesus before His disciples. Joseph, the cupbearer, understood that within three days he would be restored to his position, just as Pharaoh had promised—giving him back his role of serving the king’s needs, much like his previous service. This narrative illustrates divine providence at work, promising restoration and highlighting the importance of faith in God's timing and plans.
