Galatians 1:24

"but they only heard, “He who once persecuted us now preaches the faith that he once tried to destroy.”"

Key Reflection

This verse highlights the dramatic transformation of Paul, who previously persecuted Christians but is now preaching the very faith he sought to destroy. It underscores the profound impact of divine grace and the surprising nature of conversion, where former enemies become ardent advocates for the same beliefs they once opposed.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 24. And they glorified God in me. They praised God on my account. They regarded me as a true convert and a sincere Christian; and they praised God that he had converted such a persecutor, and had made him a preacher of the gospel. The design for which this is mentioned is to show that though he was personally unknown to them, and had not derived his views of the gospel from them, yet that he had their entire confidence. They regarded him as a convert and an apostle, and they were disposed to praise God for his conversion.
