Ezra 6:3

"A scroll was found at Achmetha, in the palace that is in the province of Media, and in it this was written for a record:"

Key Reflection

This verse indicates the discovery of an official decree issued by Cyrus, detailing the construction of Jerusalem's temple. The finding of such a document underscores its legitimacy and significance, as it came from a powerful king who allowed the Jewish exiles to return home and rebuild their sacred site.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

It is difficult to reconcile the dimentions here with expressions in ZechariahZechariah 4:10, HaggaiHaggai 2:3, and even EzraEzra 3:12, which imply that the second temple was smaller than the first (compare1 Kings 6:2). Perhaps the dimensions here are those which Cyrus required the Jews not to exceed.
