Ezekiel 4:11

"Your food which you shall eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day. From time to time you shall eat it."

Key Reflection

In Ezekiel 4:11, God instructs the prophet Ezekiel to limit his daily food intake to twenty shekels of barley—a small portion by modern standards. This dietary restriction serves as a symbolic representation of the scarcity and hardship that the people of Israel will face during their exile. By limiting himself to this meager amount, Ezekiel is not only demonstrating obedience but also preparing spiritually for the challenges ahead, mirroring the experience of his fellow exiles who will endure similar conditions.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Water by measure -This probably corresponds to the water of affliction1 Kings 22:27;Isaiah 30:20. The measure of the hin is variously estimated by Jewish writers. The sixth part of a hin will be according to one estimate about 610ths, according to another 910ths of a pint. The lesser estimate is more suitable here.
