Ezekiel 3:14

"I heard the noise of the wings of the living creatures as they touched one another, and the noise of the wheels beside them, even the noise of a great rushing."

Key Reflection

In Ezekiel 3:14, the prophet describes an otherworldly experience where he hears the sounds of divine beings and their chariots moving in harmony. This auditory scene would have evoked the presence of the divine for the original audience, as similar imagery was used to convey God's sovereignty in ancient Near Eastern literature. The noise of wings and wheels symbolized the heavenly host's swift and majestic movement, reinforcing the awe-inspiring nature of Ezekiel’s vision and his call to prophetic ministry.

Lifted me up -We are not to suppose that the prophet was miraculously transported from one place to another in the land of his captivity. CompareMatthew 4:1;Acts 8:39. He had been in an ecstatic visionEzekiel 1:1, and now guided by the Spirit he goes forth among his countrymen. The heat of my spirit -Full of the righteous indignation, which God inspired, against the sin which he was to denounce. But the hand -and “the hand.” The Lord strengthened him for his mission.
