Esther 2:7

"who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives who had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away."

Key Reflection

This verse signifies the broader context of exile and God's sovereign control over history. The mention of Jeconiah (also known as Jehoiachin) being among those taken captive highlights how God's plan extends even to kings and rulers, illustrating His ultimate authority over nations and individuals alike.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Hadassah,הדסהhădassâhfromהדסhădas(“myrtle”) would seem to have been the Hebrew, and Esther the Persian, name of the damsel. Esther is thought to be connected through the Zend withἀστήρastēr, “star.” But there is not at present any positive evidence of the existence in Old Persian of a kindred word.
