Ecclesiastes 10:11

"If the ax is blunt, and one doesn’t sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but skill brings success."

Key Reflection

This verse metaphorically suggests that when we lack wisdom or skill in our actions, we must exert greater effort to achieve our goals. However, true effectiveness and success come through developing proficiency and applying knowledge wisely.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Rather: “If a serpent without enchantment (i. e., not being enchanted) bites, then there is no advantage to the charmer”: i. e., if the charmer is unwisely slack in exercising his craft, he will be bitten like other people. SeePsalms 58:4note.
