Daniel 12:10

"He said, “Go your way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end."

Key Reflection

In Daniel 12:10, the prophet Daniel receives a cryptic message instructing him to "go your way" because the revelations he has been given are for a future time—specifically, until the "time of the end." This phrase suggests that the full understanding and realization of these prophecies would not come during Daniel's lifetime but rather at a later, more distant period. The image of sealed words evokes a sense of mystery and anticipation, hinting that only those wise enough to grasp the deeper meanings will fully comprehend them when they are finally revealed.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Many shall be purified -In future times. That is, as the connection would seem to require, there will be a system introduced by which many will become purified, and made holy. Daniel might hope and expect that under the arrangements which God would make, many of the human race would be cleansed from sin. To what he would apply this we cannot determine, but it is a great truth of immense importance in regard to the human family, that, before the “end,” or the consummation, “many” will be made holy. And made white -White is the emblem of innocence or purity, and hence, the term is so often applied to the righteous.
